Many New Yorker's love to eat hot dogs and if you are ever in the city you can usually find a hot dog cart sitting at just about every New York City street corner. One of the condiments you will find on these hot dog carts is a condiment called Hot Dog Onion Sauce.
Today we are going to share with all of you how you can make your own Hot Dog Onion Sauce!
Hot Dog Onion Sauce Recipe
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 medium onions, finely chopped
1/4 cup catsup
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
2 drops of hot pepper sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup water
In a large frying pan saute the chopped onion in the vegetable oil until the onions have caramelized (about 3 minutes). Stir in the cinnamon, chili powder, hot pepper sauce, salt, ground black pepper and water. Simmer sauce mixture over medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Serve sauce over hot dogs.
